My First Shopping

Last weekends, we went shopping with my RA and my group members for the first time.  I couldn’t go out for 2 weeks because of coronavirus.  But the day is that we went shopping so I was excited.  First, we went to downtown and I bought vanilla cream Frappuccino in Starbucks.  I was surprised at the size of Starbucks in America.  Japan’s Starbucks use tall size often.  But American’s one often use grande size!  It was very big size for me so I couldn’t finish drinking it.  I’m sure that the next time is that I want to take tall size.  After that we went to Northtown.  I didn’t buy anything there but I could see many stores so I was happy.  But my group member bought some colorful waterbotles, for example, purple, sky blue, etc.  They are very cute and I wanted to buy any waterbottle.  And I want to buy some big stickers because I put it waterbottles, laptop, iphone case or etc.  Two of my group members had already put it waterbottle and laptop.  It’s very good.  And finally we went to wallmart which sells various things.  I bought papers, markers, cosmestics, and dry seat it use at dry machine.  I was very glad because I wanted stationary goods!  And the dry seat is very good smell so I’m looking forward to using it every time.  The cosmestics is made from e.l.f bland.  Do you know e.l.f
.?
It’s very cheap bland my friend told to me.  But the cosmesticks is very good to use!  So I recommend you to buy anything in e.l.f.  We went shopping Sunday, too.  But the weather is pretty bad.  So we couldn’t have much time and buy anything…  I was very sad but the day is walking around the downtown, Northtown.  So it was great time for us because we can see the scenery of Spokane!  I’m looking forward to go shopping on Saturday!!1

My Happy 19th Birthday

by Mizuki
My birthday is February 11th, so I spent my 19th birthday in the US. It is unusual to spend birthday in other countries, so I feel that I was lucky that I spent my birthday in different place. On February 11th in Japan and America, I received some messages from my friends. My group 19 and RA held a birthday party for me. They gave me some presents and a message card. Also my RA baked a cake for me!! It was a chocolate cake. It's my favorite cake. It tasted very good!! Also I ate pizza. It was first time to eat pizza in US. It was bigger than Japan's one.  I enjoyed the party because I haven't held my birthday parties with friends for a long time. February 11th in Japan is national foundation day, so everyone has a day off. I couldn't meet friends at school before, so that day was speacial for me. I had a pleasant time. I was glad for being held my birthday party. I felt grateful to group 19th and RA. I will not forget my happy 19th birthday.

I love Candice!

by Sayaka
My RA is Candice and she is 29 years old. And she is kind and powerful woman.
She likes listening to music well and especially likes R&B and ballad, so she recommended to me  “ Lizzo” ; she is a great singer-song writer.
When I played the music, she looked really happy. Also, she likes talking a lot with me and my dorm-mates.

We can have a great time because she always thinking about our group work time, and also she often helps me if I couldn’t solve questions in my homework. I'm really grateful to her because she makes it easy for me to understand.

There are 12 people in my group and they are very powerful. After school, we always do homework in living room. After we finished it, we go to commons to eat dinner together and we always play card game until midnight. Sometimes, I feel sleepy, but it is very fun.

I miss my family, but I don't think it than before. I would like to have a good time for the rest of the days.

My Living Group

There  are 12 people in my group, and RA,Cassie. She is very kind and cute. Our group is energetic and cheerful. Everyone is very gentle. We watched the movie called "Kissing Booth". That movie was recommended by one of the group member. It was very exciting. I thought that love is difficult. We ate many snacks and ice-creams while watching it. I was surprised that the snacks and ice-creams were too much. However I was satisfied with it, because I ate a lot. There were very delicious. I thought I tried to eat many other snacks, so I'm looking forward to going shopping to buy snakes. I had great time the day. Another day, there were much times after eating dinner. We talked about something and played games. I like playing games. Especially, I like gesture game the best. I knew the game for the first time. The game is different from Japanese games. It was easy for me to do it. The game livened up. We player it many times. It was very exciting. We are able to go outside this week. We will go skating, and eating dinner in downtoen this week. I'm looking forward to going to many places in Spokene. I think that I want to get along with the members of the group.

After School

Since I have been at MFWI, I often play with my friends, after school. In America, the classes finished earlier than in Japan, so I have free time after school. We play basketball, volleyball, and badminton together. Also, we run around the school. It is very fun, but I sometimes get muscle pain. I think it is important for us to exercise every day. The other day, I went to library to do my homework. We have a homework is uncomfortable, so can't have us. W have a lot of homework, so I want to finish in the library as much as possible. I can't study in my room because I lose concentration. I like the atmosphere in the library. Since I have been at MFWI, I have been borrowing two books from the library every day. Of course, They are easy to read, otherwise I would give up soon. However, I want to finish reading the difficult books, too. Because I want to improve English skills, and I want to increase my vocabulary. After studying, I go to Commons to eat dinner. We always eat dinner with our RA, Cassie. We talk about our classes. I can't understand everything she says, so I want to listen to her, expose myself to English, so that I can get used to understanding English.

My Favorite Movies

Hello! It's Kanna. Today, I would like to share with you all about my favorite movies.
I am always in trouble if someone asks me. "What is your favorite one?" I can't answer because I have so much! I really like watching movies because whenever I watch movies, they teach me new world. I can find many things to watch movies and also to watch movies is very good practice to study English or another languages. I watch movies in English with English subtitles, not Japanese subtitles. It is very good to improve my English vocabularies and listening skills. When there are difficult words I have not  known, I search. I would like to go to theater in the United States, so I have to practice watching movies without English subtitles.

My favorite movie is "Sing Street","Almost famous", "Romeo&Juliet","ROOM","Me and Earl and the Dying Girl","Star Wars", "The Dark Night", "Cinema Paradaiso" and more. You all should watch these movies:) I have watched "Parasite" twice and it is recently favorite. It was very funny and interesting.

I especially like "romance" and "drama". I like touching movies. But I always affect by movies, so if I watch sadly movies, I must be sad. If I watched music movies, I would like to begin any instruments. I like to go theater alone because I want to think about story again in my mind.  I feel sometimes, especially romance, to want to watch with boyfriend:)

Thank you for reading my blog:)

My First Week

by Mizuki
I was stressed out when I left my home because I was so nervous. I felt that I both wanted to go to the US, and I wanted to stay in Japan. On the day that I left, my mother and my aunt saw me off when I was going to go to the airport. They said to me,Don't give up.I really felt grateful to them and I hugged them. I was really looking forward to riding on a plane because I like meals on planes and because I can see the flight attendants. Before I wanted to became a flight attendant or airport groundstaff, but now I don't. They seem cool to me!! At the Seattle airport, I thought I'm really in the United States now and I felt excited. Around me, there were many Americans. While we are flying from Seattle to Spokane I was watching the ground. I thought that Spokane has many trees and a lot of snow which were beautiful. Arriving at the Spokane airport, I met my RA, Candice, for the first time. Then I felt excited because my life in America would start soon. When I arrived at Mukoga Fort Wright Institute, I had many things to do, so I was very tired, so that day, I went to bed early before roll call. When the first class begin and I met my new class classmates I got along really well with some of them. I am glad to make some new friends. In my classes, I try to understand what the teachers say, but sometimes I can't understand and sometimes I can. I will do my best in my classes. I hope that this times will become a big step in my life.

My Living Room

My RA is Liz, who is 21 years old and very kind and cute! She likes rock climbing well. When I first met her, she broke her knee because she is a rock climber. I was surprised to hear that she have broken her knee three times. Also, she works in library, so she always busy and often isn’t in my dormitory, but she talks a lot to me when she is in there.
In group 13, there are 12 people and RA. Tow of them are another class, but they are very kind and friendly, so we are good relationship.
After school, we often do our homework with dormitory members in living room. It is very fun, because we talk about our classes or teach each other. Also, we eat breakfast and dinner together every day.
Group 13
In group time and free time, we often laugh. Liz thinks interesting games, so we often laugh and become good relationship. Also, we like watching movies.  have watched more than 6 or 7 movies since I came to MFWI.
I am surprised that we have become such close friend. Everyone is kind and I like them. I want to go out various place with them for four months, and I am looking forward to making memories with them!!

Introduction

by Miuzki Hi!! My name is Mizuki. I’m from Akashi in Hyogo. There are 5 people in my family, my father,
mother, 2 older brothers, and me. My father is quiet and hardworking. My mother is talkative and kind. My brothers are nice and friendly. And I am quiet but I think I am adventurous.  I have 13 first cousins. My family gets along well with them, so we have been to many places before. One of them was a short trip to Wakayama. There were 23 in the group. We rent a bus and went to Wakayama on two days one night for my grandfather as a 60th birthday present. We visited whale museum and watched whales. Also, we touched and feed them. They were cute and it was exciting. That was a good experience for me and everyone. In my free time, I watch dramas and listen to music to study languages and cultures. Since I was a child, I want to visit many countries. I have visited Singapore before. It was my first trip abroad. In Singapore, there were many kinds of people, Chinese, Indian, Arabian and others.  It was interesting for me. To studying languages are fun for me. When I graduate from university, I want to visit many countries and experience many interesting things. Also, I want to live in another country someday, so I think I have to study hard more and more.

My First Go Out

I went shopping last weekend. We went to Downtown, North-town mall, and Walmart. There was very fun! First, we went to Downtown. There were looked like USJ. Many Pizza restaurant and Starbucks coffee shop. My first order in America is Starbucks coffee. I was nervous. I ordered strawberry Frappuccino, and I said my name, but I didn’t tell about size, so my drink size was venti. Venti size is  bigger  than grandee. It was so big, and I was surprised. It was delicious, but too much for me. I thought I want to order more correctly. In North-town mall, I bought water bottle and sticker. I want to buy water bottle for a long time, so I was happy. My bottle color is light purple, and my roommate and two members of my group has same bottle, but different color. It is really cute.  I put on sticker. It is my favorite one. After that, we went to Walmart and I bought lip and M&M’s chocolate. Price of lip was only 1 dollar, and It is very color, so I was surprised. M&M’s has big and colorful package. It looks cute, because it is mini size. I like it.
On Sunday, we went to same places and grocery store in Downtown. Suddenly, there was storm, and we were drenched. Many water dropped from my face. It looks bad, but I was fun. We ran outside and screaming. After we came home, we took bath soon. It was awesome!
I want to go to more places during my study abroad.

Out Going For The First Time

I went out first time in America. We couldn't go out for two weeks because coronavirus and influenza are prevalent now. I was looking forward it very much. I went to downtown by bus. I was a little excited while I was on the bus. At first, I was surprised at difference in getting off the bus. In Japan, to press the get off button to inform drives, but in America, to pull the rope to inform them. Also, I thought it was good  “Have a good day!” to say passenger and drivers when passenger get off. First, I went to River Park Square. There were many kinds of shops. I did window shoppig. I wanted something, but I put up because I didin't have time. It was very short shopping time. Second, I went to North Town Mall and  I bought clothes and lip there. I  had thought that there are many people because I went to there on Saturday, but people were less than expecded. Finally, I went to Walmart and  I bought snacks and stationery there. I was very happy to buy what I wanted. At last I felt really came to America because I met many American people. When I left downtown, I was tired, but I had a good experience. Next, I want to go shopping, when I have enough time.

My Living Group / RA

My RA name is Tiffany. She is very cute and  kind of us. She's mother is Japanese, so she can speak Japanese a little. She always thinks about group work, because she wants to make me happy and relax. She doesn't ignore a minority opinion and listen to everyone opinions, so I don't feel unpleasant. She also hopes to improve my English academic and talk speak English with someone. I wish to live up her exceptation.

My living group has different opinions on many things. For example, some people want to study their homework, but others want to play the game. We have a clash opinions now and then. However, so far, so good. I think I can't win them all, so it is need for me to compromise. This experience is also a good lesson for me to learn about the real world.

I played tag in complete darkness. At first it is terribly and frightened, but my eyes have become customed to the darkness, since on the contrary it become fun. I also made cookies, played cards, and played Wii. Thanks to it I can enjoy myself every day. It makes me relax even if I am exhausted from a lot of homework.

My living group support me when I am unable to keep up with classes. I appreciate their help very much. Building up stree is bad for my health, so I think released my prent-up feeling of discontent is vital for me.

My Living Group and RA

Cather
I live in Cather, and our RA are Daniela and Bella. There are 11 people in my group. They are very kind, reliable and so cute! Daniela and Bella are also kind, and they’re always help us when we’re in trouble. I like them very much.

At a group time, our group often play a game, watch a movie or do our homework. The third day, Daniela made me and my friend cocoa, and it tasted great! While drinking it, we talked about our dream, hobby and our family. I had a great time there. Last week, we played a card game, UNO which made me so excited, and I felt very happy. Also, three days ago, the day was my housemate’s birthday. So, we celebrated her and we ate chocolate cake which was really good. My housemate looked very happy, so I felt happy, too!

My Group, 9

By Maiya
I live in Dickinson House. There are 12 members including our RA of my group 9, and our RA is Kayla. I'll introduce our every day.  We are a good relationship, but we don't act much together.  Our daily life starts in the morning, but everyone does something different from the morning.  Some people get up early and go to Common's, some go to bed without eating.  Absolutely, however, we don't be late to class,  and then we take each classes.  At lunch time, we greet because our wake-up time are different, so we can know what everybody got up for the first time.

After the classes,  we go home or go to the library for study English.  However, the funny thing, some people always sleeping when I arrived home.  Kayla usually goes to school or works in library, so if we have things that we don't know, we can take a contact with Kayla easily when she is in the library.  I always go to Common's at 5:30p.m. for dinner, but with 3 friends. Other friends go to dinner each other, so we almost all go to dinner.  The tutorial starts at 7 o'clock, so everybody go on the first floor.  We play games or do homework.  Everybody is friendly and kind.  We can enjoy playing games, and also Kayla's games make us smile.  She has many games and is very cool.  After that, some people sleep, some take a shower, and some do homework.  At 10 o'clock, we roll and talk and sleep. This is our daily life.  We know everyone's character and open mind.  Thank you group 9!!

Bus Orientation

Today, we had Bus Orientation and went to Northtown.  That was our first outing, so I was very glad to go out.  In this orientation, I found some surprising and interesting things.
Firstly, I found that how to get off a bus was different from Japan.  In Japan, we push the button to ask the driver to stop the bus when we want to get off.  On the other hand, I saw people pull a rope before they got off.  I felt the difference interesting.
Secondly, traffic signals counted down and told us the time when the signals turned red.  Also, we visited many places: North Mall, Riverfront Park, and Walmart.  We had only 20 minutes to do shopping at Walmart.  I intended to buy the chocolate which my RA had given me, but I couldn't find it.  It was a new item, so it had run out.  I was unhappy that I couldn't buy it, but I got two other kinds of chocolate.  One of them contained 12 pieces of chocolate, so I enjoyed exchanging them to other kinds of chocolate which my friends bought.  In the end, I was happy to get several kinds of chocolate.  However, I jogged in the morning and we walked for a long time, so I was very tired.  I could sleep well.

My First Week

I left at 8:00 am for Itami airport to flight to Tokyo. I missed my family and my friends very much. In Tokyo, I rode the bus to go to Narita International airport. In Narita, I drank Starbucks coffee. It was the last food I ate in Japan. At 5:30 pm, I flied to Seattle. On the airplane, I watched three movies: Kingdom, Toy Story 4, and No Longer Human. They were very, very fun. In the Seattle airport, I ate sandwich and bought a sprite at McDonald’s. Unlike Japan, they were very big. After that, I flied to Spokane, which is very cold. I was very tired when I arrived here because it took very, very long time to get here. In the airport, I first met my RA, Liz, who is very cute. The other student and I arrived at my dormitory. It is very big, unlike my home. When I first arrived, I watched movies every day in me dormitory, because we couldn't go out for two weeks. It was boring, but I watched the best movie, witch called “Annabelle”. It is a horror movie, that you can watch in Japan. When I was in Japan, I wanted to watch it, but I could not, because I was busy. It was very, very scary. I often screamed, but it was very fun.
On Tuesday, the first class started. In the class, there were 14 people, but there was only one person who I knew. She is a student in my same class in Japan. In the class, I introduced myself to everybody. I was able to remember everybody's name in one day. They are very cute and kind, and the classes are more interesting than in Japan, but I am afraid of speaking only English in class. Now, I can’t speak well. I hope to improve my English skills at MFWI. For dinner, there are many kinds of food at commons. It is more delicious than I thought. I especially like the croutons in the salads, but I want to eat Japanese food once a week.

About Me!

top : GENARATIONS
bottom : FANTASTICS
Hi! My name is Hikari. I was born in Kobe, Hyogo 19 years ago. I go to school at Mukogawa Woman’s University. In my free time, I often listen to music and watch concert DVD and watch YouTube and watch movie. My favorite artist is “GENERATIONS” and “FANTASTICS”, so I often watch their concert DVD.
I have five members in my family: father, mother, two older sister and grandmother. My father is a deliveryman. He has been working as a deliveryman more than thirty years. My mother is a caregiving in nursing home. One of my older sisters is 27 years old. She lives outside of my home. She lives in Osaka with her boyfriend. She is a kindergarten teacher. The other older sisters is 25 years old. She works as a hairstylist. So, I always have cut and dye my hair for free! It is very grateful. My grandmother is 94 years old. I want her to live a long life.
I don’t have my dream yet… But I think I would like to live outside of Japan and work there when I am able to speak English better!

My First Outing and My surprise

I went to the downtown on last weekend. Going to town was forbidden for two weeks due to coronavirus infection, so I was very exciting after a long absence.
We went to the downtown by the bus. While on the bus, I was always exciting because I’ve never been to the abroad. American buildings are generally lower and road is widely than in Japan. Unlike the scenery I saw in Japan, it was very fun just walking.
I went to shopping Northtownmall and Walmart. I bought some clothes and snacks. It was my first shopping and I enjoyed it. But the bill was little difficult so It was nice to spend a little money.
Also, I was surprised for three things.
First, I was surprised to see a timer that displayed at the blue light of the traffic light. This system does not exist in Japan, so I thought it was convenient. Second,  American supermarket are very big and there were many products. I was overwhelmed by the large amount of stock in one product. Third, American products price is cheaper than in Japan. So, I could buy many food and delighted.
Shopping for the first time in America was a very fun and memorable experience.

My First Week

Image result for 乾燥 フリー素材     I am very surprised about two things in Spokane.  The first thing is the dryness.  Spokane is very dry, so our RA said to us, “You must eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and drink seven cups of water.”  However, I don’t like fruit or raw vegetables, and I don’t like juice or water, so I can’t drink enough water.  Also, my room was very hot for a few days, so my skin got quite dry.  My body requires more water.  I am suffering from dryness.  However, I have begun to eat more vegetables and drink a few more water gradually.
Secondly, I was surprised to see some Common’s staff wearing earbuds while they are working.  I think that they are working listening to music.  In Japan, we usually can’t work and listen to music on our music player at the same time, but I wish we could work while listening to music because the Common’s staff looks happy.  Also, they are very friendly.  Most of them say, “Hello” or “How are you?” to us, so I like them.

I like song called "Wherever you are."  This song is the most famous song of ONE OK ROCK in Japan.  She has been to this artist's concert many times in America.  I was so surprised to hear that, and I was glad she likes Japanese artists.

Surprises in America from My First Week

Hi! I have been  surprised by somethings since I arrived in the US.
First, I was surprised that on the airplane system. There are many movies, from old movies to new movies. Second When I arrived at the airport in Seattle, I went to the toilet and noticed that the toilet door has a large gap above and below it. In Japan, contrary to the United States, we have doors from floor to ceiling with no gaps, so I was worried about someone being able to see through the gap. Another surprising at the airport, was seeing singer who was singing a song. There were many people around the singer and who were enjoying listening to the music. Usually in Japan, we don't see the singer at the airport. At the airport in Seattle I ate American food it for the first time. I felt American food is very oily. Also, I was surprised that they served the meat for our breakfast. In Japan, breakfast includes, for example salad, scrambled eggs, and bread, but there is no meat , so, I was unfamiliar with eating meat in the morning , so I couldn’t eat it.
These American things surprised me.

My First Culture Shock

The day we left Japan was very sad for me because I didn’t want to separate from my family and my friends.  At first, we took a plane from Itami airport to Haneda airport and then we through to Narita airport and then to Seattle.  This flight was so long that I was exhausted.  On the plane, I watched two Japanese movies, Ningyononemuruie and Forutwunanohitomi.  The movie were interesting, but the airplane's food didn’t suit me.  After the flight, we arrived at the Seattle airport which was very big with many people.  I was a little afraid because I only heard English, but I was very excited to be in the US for the first time.

The first surprising thing about America was that American restrooms don't have long enough doors.  Japanese doors, for example, touch the ground, so I felt ashamed while I was in the restroom because it felt like people could see me on the toilet.
American Style
Also, I thought that American food was either very oily or very sweet. Most Japanese people can't get used to it.  I was very sad that I couldn't eat Japanese food but MFWI made Japanese food for us, so I was very happy.  Another surprising things is that in America people speak in loud and friendly voices to me.  It is very surprising because we don't speak to strangers so much in Japan.  I was talked by American people When I was in the Seattle Airport, American people talked to me for Starbucks.  We were also asked our first names in Starbucks because the cook writes our name on the cup.  It was very cute and I’m very glad to see that.  I learned Americans have different eating styles from Japan.  I learned that there is a meal which is called brunch and which includes breakfast and lunch,  but brunch makes me very hungry because it is served late.  However, brunch is more delicious than breakfast or lunch, so I like brunch!  Finally, I want to know more about many different things in America!!

Ryoko, introduction

Hi, my name is Ryoko.  I’m in Spokane, Washington because I’m studying abroad now!

I’m 18 years old and my birthday is February 27th so I will be 19 years old soon.  I have lived in Hyogo, Japan, since I was born. Do you know Hyogo?  Hyogo is famous for Himeji castle which is World Heritage Site in 1993.  It's very gorgeous because it is pained the wall white.  I
Himeji Castle
recommend you to go there if you have never been to!

There are 5 people in my family, my father, my mother, my older brother, my older sister, and me.  My brother is nine years older than I.  And my older sister is seven older than I.  My siblings are really close, for example, we go to a theater together!  I like my family.

My hobby is watching TV and drawing pictures.  In particular, I like Japanese drama and comedy.  I had seen to a comedy duo with my sister several times.  Someday I want to go to the M-1 Grand Prix which is the most famous comedy tournament in Japan.

My First Trip Abroad

This is my first time to go abroad, so I was very nervous. On February 6, I flew to Spokane. I was really nervous, but I was also excited. The flight from Japan to Seattle was really long. I don’t like planes, so I wasn't happy, but I could watch a lot of movies, eat delicious food, and sleep well, so I was happy when I arrived in Spokane, but I was really tired.

First day in Spokane, I played “Just dance wii” with my friends and RA. It was so exciting. After that, we played a card game called, “Dobble”. It was difficult, but I like it. At dinner time, I was very happy because Commons has a lot of fruit. I like fruit so much. In addition, I was surprised because the meals are gorgeous. For example,  the hamburger, pasta, and other food is really beautiful. After a few days, they also served ice cream. It was really delicious. I ate rainbow ice candy.
My classes started on Tuesday. They were exciting. On the First day, I had conversation, writing, and American Studies class. I’m not good at writing, but writing class was really exciting. I made many friends in the class, and I am getting along with my friends on my class from my classes at MWU . I’m so happy.
Another good thing is I get to eat Japanese snacks, such as, Niboshi, Ottotto. They taste more delicious than when I ate them in Japan. I’m looking forward to eating many kinds of American food, but I’m really sad because we can’t go off campus for 2 weeks, because the corona virus means that we need to stay on campus in order to be safe.

I’m also excited because classes have started. I have made many friends in class. I like writing class and conversation class because I can talk a lot to my classmates and my teachers.
